Description - We are looking down river towards the Clifton Suspension Bridge from a viewpoint of the end of the outermost island entrance to the Cumberland Basin of the Floating Harbour of Bristol City Docks. This was where the Dockmaster's Office was sited, who probably had to approve the artist working on site. At the time the docks were still very active, and all the boats on view would have been in regular use.

More About The Artist:
Claude Henry Buckle was born in London in 1905. He trained as an architect, but turned to art in 1928. He produced commissioned artwork for the new nuclear power stations around the country in the 1950s, and was a close friend of Terence Cuneo. He was a painter in oils and watercolour, particularly of marine subjects, and was prolific in his production of artwork for railway posters. He produced posters for GWR, LMS, SR & BR.
