Description - Chester's Eastgate is on the site of the entrance to the Roman fortress of Deva Victrix. The current structure dates back to 1768 and the famous clock to 1899. The whole structure is grade 1 listed. Buckle's mid-50s view gives us an impression of the cars, fashions and shopfronts of the period.

Many folds, with slight wear and creasing, slight ink bleed across at top, Deepdene on rear in crayon, suggesting the poster was sent there for display. More detailed photos are available on request if required.
More About The Artist:
Claude Henry Buckle was born in London in 1905. He trained as an architect, but turned to art in 1928. He produced commissioned artwork for the new nuclear power stations around the country in the 1950s, and was a close friend of Terence Cuneo. He was a painter in oils and watercolour, particularly of marine subjects, and was prolific in his production of artwork for railway posters. He produced posters for GWR, LMS, SR & BR.
