Title - Anglesey - Amlwch and Bull Bay.
Location - Bull Bay, Amlwch, Anglesey, Wales.
Artist - Norman Wilkinson CBE (1878-1971).
Description - A stylised scene, using the block-colour style of the 1930s. Wilkinson has depicted the peaceful unspoilt bays and coastline of the northern coast of the island of Anglesey, specifially looking across the sheltered Bull Bay towards the small town of Amlwch. We can see a family paddling in the shallows near a rowing boat, and a number of yachts out in the bay. The railway branch line to Amlwch closed in 1964, following the Beeching Report. There are hopes that the line can be re-opened in the future.

More About The Artist:
Norman Wilkinson was born in Cambridge. His greatest love was painting, and he was largely self-taught, in both oil and watercolour. During WWI he created 'Dazzle Painting' as a form of camouflage for ships. He was one of the best marine painters, and his work is in many public collections, including a series of WWII sea battles at the National Maritime Museum. He initiated the 1920s LMS poster work, and created a large number himself over the years. He received his CBE in 1948.
