Artist - Freda Violet Lingstrom (1893-1989).
Description - An armour-clad warrior, with blood stained daggers and a large plume, is shown in front of a line of armoured horsemen with battle flags. The English-Scottish border region had been fought-over on many occasions, but not during the 1920s and 30s! This is one of a series of posters produced by Lingstrom for the LNER, all with wide coloured borders, and a central 'framed' image. In realitity it is a greener green than the photo suggests - the camera has made it seem bluer.
Year Published - c1930
Size - Double Royal (approx 40 x 25in or 101.5 x 63.5cm) plus slight border of backing paper.

Condition Grade and Condition Report:
Grade: B+, conservation-backed on thick Japanese paper.
Repaired tears and small losses touched-up with watercolour pencils, a little loose in places. Japanese paper slightly wrinkled on rear. Will display very well. More detailed photos are available on request if required.
About the Artist:
Freda Violet Lingstrom was born in Chelsea in 1893. She attended the Central School of Arts and Crafts, and in 1922 set up on her own as a designer, her first clients being various railway companies including the LNER and London Underground and the Norwegian state railway. The Norwegian and Swedish governments commissioned her to design Scandinavian travel propaganda for the English market.
After WWII she became Head of BBC Children's Television from 1951–1956 and was responsible for the pioneering children's programmes of the early 1950s.
