Title - The Bournemouth Belle - Daily Throughout The Year.
Location - Woking, Surrey, England.
Artist - Barber.
Description - The main subject of the artwork is the luxurious Pullman coaching stock. The view is of the Belle steam-hauled train passing through Woking station en-route to London, with a mainline third-rail electic multiple unit, coming towards us, forming a Waterloo to Portsmouth semi-fast train (Headcode 8). The Bournemouth Belle service ran from 1931 to 1967 using All-Pullman locomotive-hauled coaching stock. Post-war the train was almost always hauled by Merchant Navy steam locomotives. The train was popular with passengers for the ocean liners and ferries from Southampton as well as tourists for Bournemouth itself.
This is a Stock poster, where the image would have been printed seperately, with the wording added later in letterpress form. This way, a part-pictorial poster image could be used for multiple advertising purposes.
