Title - Carlisle - Travel There In Rail Comfort.
Location - Carlisle, Cumbria, England.
Artist - Kerry Ernest Lee (1903-1988).
Description - This fabulous depiction is effectively a shrunken aeriel view of Carlisle's central area, which meets people when they arrive by train and leave the station. The Citadel Towers welcome people into the historic city centre and market place. The small St Cuthbert church nestles in the shadows of the Cathedral, and the Castle which dates to William II is in the background. Kerry Lee always includes himself painting somewhere in the artwork, this time by the towers. This is one of a series of map posters which he produced for different towns and cities.
