Location – Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, England.
Artist - John Edmund Mace (1889-1952).
Description – Ever since the railway arrived there in the 1880s, Clacton has always been a very popular seaside destination. Between the 1920s and 60s the railway companies produced posters every year, often employing the best artists of the time. This early example uses the block-colour ideas of the time, showing a busy and colourful destination, viewed down Pier Avenue, across the gardens to the pier and yachts in the distance. This poster was originally rescued from underneath the carpets in a house in north London in the 1980s.
