About the Artist:
Imre Hofbauer was born in Serbia in 1906. He financed his architectural training by contributing cartoons to newspapers and the German satirical weekly, Simplicissimuss. In 1936, the rising Jewish satirist went to live in London. During the war he completed a collection of drawings, capturing the horrors he witnessed as a voluntary fireman. They were published in 1942. After the war, London remained Hofbauer’s home and the subject of his art. This was his only London Transport poster.
