Description - A 1957 artists' impression (the artist also being the architect) of the new building to replace St Michael's Cathedral, destroyed by bombing in 1940. The poster first appeared 5 years before the new Cathedral was consecrated on 25th May 1962, and was re-released in 1961.
This particular example was printed for the North-American market, as it has extra wording at the bottom.

Sir Basil Urwin Spence was born in Bombay, India in 1907. He was a major architect of the post-war years, mainly in the Modernist/Brutalist style, producing a large number of buildings in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Coventry Cathedral was possibly his most famous, and it was for this that he received his knighthood. He did not produce any other railway posters.
