Title - Derbyshire - Monsal Dale in the Peak District National Park - See Britain by Train.
Location - Monsal Dale, Derbyshire, England.
Artist - Peter Collins (1923-2001).
Description - A panoramic view of the viaduct crossing the River Wye, with a steam train progressing across. The Headstone (Monsal Dale) Viaduct, is the bridge made famous soon after opening in 1863, by John Ruskin who wrote "It has ruined the valley so that every fool in Buxton can be in Bakewell in half an hour and every fool from Bakewell can be in Buxton by lunchtime". He was clearly not a fan, but nowadays the graceful viaduct is widely thought to enhance the landscape! It is now part of a popular walking trail. The line was closed to trains in 1968.
