Title - The Eden Valley - The Eden at Bolton near Appleby.

Description - A wonderful oil painting showing the unspoilt Eden Valley just north of Appleby, where the minor road crosses the River Eden in Bolton village just out of sight of the A66. A couple are resting on the bridge and a man is fishing in the distance.
It was originally produced in 1959, but BR obviously liked it so much that they re-issued it after the line had closed in Jan 1962, as the "Travel in Comfort By Train" is an over-print, with the original wording underneath saying "Go By Train To Appleby West Or Appleby East Station"

More About The Artist:
Claude Henry Buckle was born in London in 1905. He trained as an architect, but turned to art in 1928. He produced commissioned artwork for the new nuclear power stations around the country in the 1950s, and was a close friend of Terence Cuneo. He was a painter in oils and watercolour, particularly of marine subjects, and was prolific in his production of artwork for railway posters. He produced posters for GWR, LMS, SR & BR.
