Description - One of a series of 1930s posters by Fred Taylor of different architectural periods and people of the times. The upper part of the poster relates to the abbey origins of the Ely Cathedral site and the new Norman architecture used to build the fisrt parts of what is now a fine medieval building.
Below is a representation of the chain-mail clad fighters who were sent to the abbey to enforce the rules of the new Norman rulers after the 1066 invasion.

Folds, slight ink marks in places where the ink may not have been fully dry when the poster was originally folded. Some wonderfully three dimensional-looking lithographic printing. More detailed photos are available on request if required.
More About The Artist:
Fred Taylor was born in London, studied art in Paris, London and Italy, and worked at the Waring and Gillow studio. He designed posters from 1908 until the 1940s, and worked with the Navy on camouflage during WWII. His work is in several public collections. He produced posters for a variety of railway companies, London Transport, the Empire Marketing Board and shipping companies.
