Description - A colourful painting of the cathedral and it's surroundings, with a more subdued depiction below, showing the crowning of Henry III which took place in Gloucester Cathedral in 1216. This is one of a series of Cathedral posters produced by the LMS The others are Hereford, Worcester and Lichfield. The poster was produced by the LMS, and issued jointly with the GWR, the two companies collaborating on advertising in this part of the country.

More About The Artist:
Claude Henry Buckle was born in London in 1905. He trained as an architect, but turned to art in 1928. He produced commissioned artwork for the new nuclear power stations around the country in the 1950s, and was a close friend of Terence Cuneo. He was a painter in oils and watercolour, particularly of marine subjects, and was prolific in his production of artwork for railway posters. He produced posters for GWR, LMS, SR & BR.
