Description - A very bright and colourful Scottish piper is being used to advertise Great Britain as a whole. Laurence Fish was known for his bright and stylish poster artwork.
This was a jointly issued poster by BR and SNCB, the Belgian National Railways, encouraging use of the ferry service between Ostend and Dover. The image was reused by BR into the 1980s, so they must have believed that it worked.

Laurence Fish was born in London, and started work as an illustrator, after the war becoming internationally known. He produced illustration and technical image work for many large industrial companies as well as his posters for British Railways, which he signed as "Laurence". He also had a fine art style, which was rather different, and on which he concentrated in later years.
