This poster is one of a collection saved by a railwayman who worked at Carlisle station from the 1940s to the 1960s. The poster was never used and is in the same condition as originally received at the station for display.

Claude Henry Buckle was born in London in 1905. He trained as an architect, but turned to art in 1928. He produced commissioned artwork for the new nuclear power stations around the country in the 1950s, and was a close friend of Terence Cuneo. He was a painter in oils and watercolour, particularly of marine subjects, and was prolific in his production of artwork for railway posters. He produced posters for GWR, LMS, SR & BR.
