Description - A wonderfully colourful view of a busy market in an un-named town, overlooked by a ruined castle. This poster would have been used at smaller stations to encourage people to travel to their local market town by train to do their shopping. Although the image is actually based on Richmond, North Yorkshire, the poster was produced as a "Stock" poster and used in various ways, including advertising other named towns!

Jack Merriott was a landscape and portrait painter, who used both oil and watercolour media. He lectured widely, wrote and illustrated related books, and was vice president of the RI. He produced artwork for quite a number of railway posters.
