Location - Neidpath Castle, Peebles, Borders/Peeblesshire , Scotland.
Artist - Jack Merriott (1901-1968).
Description - Just to the west of Peebles lies this old tower house (basically a house with castle-like fortifications to enable it to withstand minor attacks). The whole Borders region saw many conflicts over the centuries, so extra security was often required. The house is build on a small rocky crag above a tranquil section of the River Tweed, and is nowadays used as a wedding venue and for some location filming, and is said to be haunted by the ghost of Jean Douglas.
This version of the poster was produced for the North American market, as can be seen from the wording at the bottom.

Jack Merriott was a landscape and portrait painter, who used both oil and watercolour media. He lectured widely, wrote and illustrated related books, and was vice president of the RI. He produced artwork for quite a number of railway posters.
