Title - South For Winter Sun - Trains Every Few Minutes - Southern Electric. To Brighton, Hove, Portsmouth, Eastbourne, Hastings & Now To Bognor Regis, Littlehampton & Chichester.
Artist - Rice.
Description - A fabulous stylised depiction of trains snaking across the snow-covered South Downs. The darkness of London in the foreground contrasts with the blue sea and sky of the Channel in the distance with the outline of a pier and yachts. The coastal towns and resorts served by the modern electric trains are listed at the bottom, including a 'snipe' with newly added electric destinations for 1938. The idea of Winter Sun was used many times during the 1920s and 30s by the Southern Railway to encourage Londoners to use the trains to get out of the city for holidays and day trips in the winter.
