Description - A side view of the new post-war ship SS Arnhem, launched by the LNER in 1947. This is one of the last shipping posters from the LNER and includes the crests of the City of Arnhem (top right) and of the LNER company (top left). The LNER crest was seldom used on posters. The ship was scrapped in 1968 after many years of reliable service.

Prior to linen backing the poster had tears, small paper losses and major creasing. The tears have been repaired, some minor creasing remains and small paper replacements have taken place around the edges. More detailed photos are available on request if required.
More About The Artist:
Frank H Mason was born Frank Henry Algernon Mason in 1875, in County Durham, the son of a railway clerk. By 1900 he had decided to be a full time artist. During WWI he was a shipping war artist of the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve. A number of his paintings from that period are in the Imperial War Museum. From the 1920s he produced the artwork for a huge number of posters for the railway companies. He was elected to both the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. He was exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1902 onwards, and is represented in many galleries.
