Description - Tamworth Castle is one of the best preserved motte-and-bailey castles in Britain. The earliest buildings date to Norman times, with many more recent additions. It sits high abover the Rivers Thame and Anker as depicted here by Maddox. This is roughly the view from the bandstand in the gardens. At the bottom is a small map showing Tamworth as a crossing location of two railway routes, showing that it could be accessed by train easily from many parts of the country.

Ronald Maddox was born in Putney, and studied art. He was a designer and artist with the RAF during his national service. He started work as an art director for advertising agencies and then became a successful artist, illustrator and designer, producing work for many British companies. He also designed stamps and other items for Royal Mail. His work has featured in many exhibitions and is held in many collections.
