Title – Visit The Tower of London.
Location - London, Middlesex, England.
Artist - Reginald Montague Lander (1913-c1980).
Description - A lovely view centred on the Tower of London, seen through the open deck of Tower Bridge, with barges on the River Thames.
In the 1970s Reginald Lander produced the "Visit" series of posters for the Southern Region, covering Castles, Cathedrals and Abbeys all of which were easily accessible from Southern Region trains.
The artwork for this series is almost in the style of etchings, in intricate detail, showing the respective buildings highlighted in their surroundings. This was long after photographic posters were the norm, and there is no question that art will always outshine photography on a poster because it's not just showing simple reality.
