Title – Visit Rochester Cathedral.
Location - Rochester, Kent, England.
Artist - Reginald Montague Lander (1913-c1980).
Description - The largely Norman-built Rochester Cathedral is the second oldest cathedral in England, founded in 604. The oldest parts of the present building date back to 1080.
In 1978 Reginald Montague Lander produced the "Visit" series of posters for the Southern Region, covering Castles, Cathedrals and Abbeys all of which were easily accessible from Southern Region trains.
The artwork for this series is almost in the style of etchings, in intricate detail, showing the respective buildings highlighted in their surroundings. This was long after photographic posters were the norm, and there is no question that art will always outshine photography on a poster because it's not just showing simple reality.
