Description - A bold image of a bathing belle waving a starfish, probably painted in the 1930s. Whitley Bay has always been a popular seaside destination from Newcastle. The wide sandy beach below her is very busy, complete with changing tents. In the distance round the bay is St Mary's Lighthouse.

More About The Artist:
Arthur Cadwgan Michael was born in Swansea. After studying art, he moved to Paris in 1899 working as an illustrator. He soon moved on to London and later to Guernsey in 1928. He produced artwork for a number of railway posters for the LNER and LMS.
