Description - A wonderful depiction of fast moving yacht racing taking place off the north coast of Kent at Whitstable. To the right are boats on the shore and many coastal buildings, possibly associated with the local shellfish and oyster fishing industry. Whitstable was also the terminus of one of the earliest railways in Britain.

Laurence Fish was born in London, and started work as an illustrator, after the war becoming internationally known. He produced illustration and technical image work for many large industrial companies as well as his posters for British Railways, which he signed as "Laurence". He also had a fine art style, which was rather different, and on which he concentrated in later years.
